The Judges run games sometimes where the prizes are your memories. Sometimes they're harmless, sometimes people are killed.

[setting up to make a small fire, gathering bits of dead grass and sticks]

Games...

"Games." Where the rules are unspecified and where loopholes are punished.

And they're holding our memories hostage somehow?

I don't know how it works here. Whether they're hostage or they need the energy to get them back... they haven't said.

Energy? If they're low on energy, they should take vitamins.

Different kind of energy.

Does it matter? They still have unfair access to what is ours.

It's not the only thing they have. They can strip out feelings too if they want, or change around bodies.

How is that?

Even so, if it exists, why can't we use it ourselves?

They're not going to let us have that kind of power. We're kept weaker than they are.

Then doesn't that prove that they regard us as people to be kept control of, and using our memories as bait?

They could get us into games without the memories. Either way, there's no escape from here.

If you have an idea of how to BEGIN trying, I'd like to hear it.

Why not pit our captors against each other somehow?

We'd still be stuck in a cave on an unknown world.

That's a little closed minded... if they're so interested in playing games, wouldn't they want to use us if they're also butting heads with one another? But we still have a degree of free will, so we could just refuse to fight for them unless they give in to our own demands.

That'd work if we weren't completely and totally expendable.
